Secondly community level engagement could be ideal " it is enabling and empowering people to discover your own solutions". as stated by psychologist Carl Rogers , but it needs when the political environment is favorable, other wise it is a right cause but can be taken to be a civil appraising against the government they will do every thing possible to suppress it,and this can be very demoralizing
REFLECTION

Limitations of;

1. Advocacy

 Lack of funds to design and run the advocacy programs

 Difficulty of the target audience to perceive the right message

 Harassment from government for example against messages of advocacy from the opposition.

 Poverty as a disabling factor where the audience facing deep poverty will not be able to respond to certain messages. Poverty is their immediate problem.

2. Social Mobilization

 Misunderstandings and uncooperative behaviors due to inner differences in tribes, beliefs, norms, among others.

 Corruption due to greed and conflict of interest

 Language barriers

 Shortage of funds, infrastructures, mass media

 Poverty removes the ability of people to respond to certain messages

3. Behavior Change Communication

 Shortage of funds to carry out extensive research

 This strategy involves many stages and therefore takes a long time to come to the final stage

In my opinion which is my conclusion, the three strategies would best work for more serious behaviors for example HIV, that affect a big population and not just few individuals or small group of people for example drink driving among other vices.
Unit 3

Consider SBCC project you are working on or have worked on in the past. How could this project include/have included all three strategies of SBCC?

Which strategy/strategies would you have focused on and why?

The SBCC program am working on (alcoholism) can combine advocacy, social mobilization and behavior change communication strategy in terms of organizing campaigns to raise resources that can help in the project which include Commitment to mobilize funds from different sectors.

Including the government to put up laws that can reduce the level of alcohol consumption and making sure that these laws are implemented.

Forming coalition between community leaders, spiritual and traditional leaders that can help in project facilitation by educating and informing people on the dangers of alcohol

High quality training through publicity and community media, informing people on the dangers of alcohol and educating them on how to control and manage those addicted within the community for example putting up projects that can keep people busy so as not to think of alcohol.

Which strategy/strategies would you have focused on and why?

The strategy i would focus on is behaviour change communication because i can be able to identify analyse and segment the audience and participants in the program.BCC also has an advantage of providing information and motivation through strategies like use of media channels to inform and educate people on alcoholism plus the dangers that come with it. I can use media channels like radio, television, news papers and magazines among others.

I would also focus on advocacy because a project cannot be successful without gathering and organizing information for the purpose of raising resources or gaining political and social leadership acceptance and commitment.
